Completing Advanced Configuration 126 Getting Started Guide 7. When you have finished editing the menu entries, choose File|Save to store your changes. 8. Choose File|Exit to close the Menu Editor. NOTE: If you are logged in as root and want to change the main menu that all users see, you can use the same proce- dures given in this section to edit the main menu. The direc- tory that defines the main menu is /opt/kde/share/applnk. Adding Icons to the Panel You can also add icons to the KDE Panel so that they can be started with a single mouse click. NOTE: To move or delete icons from the Panel, right-click on the icon and select from the pop-up menu that appears. If the application you want to add to the Panel is already on any of the KDE menus (main menu or your personal menu) you can add an icon to the Panel by following these steps: 1. Choose Panel|Add Application on the main menu. The submenu that appears mirrors the main menu itself. 2. Choose an item from this second copy of the main menu. That item is added to your Panel. If an application is not part of the KDE menus, you can still add it to the Panel, but you must first create a KDE Link file that refers to the application you want to add. You can create this KDE Link file anywhere, but you should create it in a subdirectory where it won’t be deleted or disturbed by your future work (for example, don’t store it in a tmp temporary directory). Once you have the KDE Link file created, open a file manager window so that the KDE Link file is visible. Drag the KDE Link file to the Panel and drop it where you want it placed. The icon associated with that KDE Link file appears on the Panel. CAUTION: The Panel records the location of the KDE Link file that you dropped. If you delete the KDE Link file, the Panel icon will no longer function.
